Girls volleyball spikes again

Unite, play, win.  This is the theme for this year’s girl’s volleyball team.  The JV/ Varsity team consists of 15 players.  Only six are seniors making this one of the youngest Varsity teams in the past several years.

Coach Laycey Johns and assistant coach Liz Balls are already leading their team to victory with their win over Hillcrest this past Tuesday.  Logan’s JV and Varsity teams have won all three games.  The freshman and sophomore teams also won their games at Hillcrest.

The girls are pumped to get into this season. “It’s a tough season,” said Whitney Norton, head captain of the varsity team.

Logan High is a 4A team but for pre-season they play 5A.

“The teams are really looking good,” said Whitney. “We are already planning for state.”

The girls need a bunch of support to keep up their spirits throughout this difficult season. Their first home game will be September 14. Come cheer on the freshman and sophomore teams at 3:30, then stay to see the JV play at 4:35 and Varsity at 6:30.

As Whitney Norton put it “Volleyball is the only game that is tighter than their spandex!”

Movie Review: The Last Song

By Alice Aldenhoff, Staff Writer

Take two teenagers, Ronnie and Will, let them meet over the summer at the ocean in Georgia and make a love story out of it. That sounds like the base of a cheesy chick flick, which “The Last Song” is.

The previously convicted Ronnie comes with her brother from New York to stay with her divorced father in Georgia over the summer. Wandering madly around the beach, she meets Will, and because of Will’s consistency they come together. But the cheesy story gets dramatic when they find out Ronnie’s dad is sick and Will’s family doesn’t accept her as his girlfriend.

The fact that Disney-star Miley Cyrus plays the rebelling main character ‘Ronnie’ made me skeptical about it because it was hard to imagine that crazy, spoiled Hannah Montana was able to play in a serious, sensitive movie is based on a bestseller of chick-lit writer Nicolas Sparks.

Now that I’ve seen it, I recommend the movie for people who like to cry because tears in your eyes are guaranteed. But still, the movie is not nearly as good as the book “The Last Song” by Nicolas Sparks. Exceeding your imagination from the book is probably impossible.
